CCHP-02zia
—
Large traditional Zia Pueblo pot made and signed by Gloria Gachupin,
sister of the well-known potter Helen Gachupin. The designs used by
Gloria are the same as those used by Helen and her grandmother. This pot
is 7 ‘/2”H x 9 V2”
W, is a coil pot, hand painted with four “Zia birds” and
rainbows and is traditionally fired. Historically, the Zia potters are
known for making utilitarian storage pots that are both beautiful and
sturdy. This Pueblo has been the source of storage jars used in other
Pueblos; the Pueblos having traded their goods for the Zia pottery.
